The First Nations of Canada.

The history, heritage, culture and determination of a people spread across a continent... from sea to sea to sea.

Diversity at its very origins where nations are as varied as the land on which they live.  A timeless existence, yet as dynamic and evolving as the winds of change which have swept over every corner of the nation called Canada.

The story of Canada cannot be written without including the First Nations;  it was these Aboriginal societies which were responsible for introducing the non-Native to a land inhospitable to outsiders.  Lacking Native wisdom, it's highly unlikely the first European explorers would have been able to achieve the level of success which opened the continent.

Over the years, the relationship between the First Nations and the dominant government has been contentious, cooperative, benign, mutually beneficial, amicable, strained, oppressive, misunderstood, charitable and progressive.  There have been inspiring achievements and abysmal failures.

While hardly without continuous struggle, for many Aboriginals of Canada, life in Northern North America holds greater appeal.  The Spirit of the North cannot be imagined; it must be experienced.

The links provided here are meant to serve as starting points to the world of Native Canada.  While admittedly not an exhaustive list, the reader will gain access to generalised topics which point to more specific titles.

Welcome to Native Canada.
